Webster Miller celebrated 50 years of trading in 2020 and is based in West Thurrock, Essex. Over the years the company has diversified into many aspects of the industry and today specialises in 24-hour transport and lifting, supplying a fleet of modern HIAB vehicles to an extensive customer base delivering containers, generators and other large site equipment as required well as offering competence support to most lifting operations.
Simon Steptoe, (Director) explains how Webster Miller has achieved significant improvements through FORS.
“We have found that using the FORS reporting, and Monitoring tools has helped with maintaining our accreditation, it allows us to see at a glance our overall operating performance as well as really keeping us aware of our carbon footprint”
Webster Miller came across FORS as an operator in the Capital. FORS were initially an advisory body. Driven by later demands by customers and the major civil engineering projects We realised Joining and becoming Gold accredited would help us to achieve best practice and benefit us by allowing our peers and potential clients to recognise through our status that we are the best at what we do.
Webster Miller passed its initial audit first time round and has not looked back since. this showed us that from here we can build on the foundation of our bronze status.
Once we were Bronze accredited a decision was made by the directors that we should progress to Silver because sites and customers were demanding it so in September 2018, we achieved our first Silver followed in November 2018 by our initial gold accreditation.
Once Webster Miller were accredited, we really started to make the most of the benefits on offer, in particular the funded driver training and Fleet management tools.
Simon Steptoe Director & Practitioner “We really started to make the most of the benefits on offer, in particular the funded driver and manager training as well as using the Fleet management tools”
David Jones manager & Practitioner “By being FORS Gold we know, and our clients know that we operate to the highest standards possible”

- Webster Miller conduct fitness to work screening on all staff annually.
- Webster Miller are fortunate to not have a great turnover of drivers in today’s climate. We recruit via local advertising and employment websites. We also take on new drivers and put them through our training programme which ensures they are trained to the standards we expect
- improving and updating our fleet has meant a reduction in engine noise whilst using the cranes and bringing awareness to staff through training of the impact of noise in the workplace.
- Webster Miller Ltd are looking into alternative fuelled vehicles and systems that may work for our operation, currently the new vehicles available are not suitable but new developments are being innovated all the time and we are constantly monitoring availability.
In order to continue to make further improvements we will be continuing to purchase Euro VI vehicles as we replace older vehicles, with an emphasis on L cab direct vision and to continually monitor what is available as an alternative fuel. We have introduced a 6 monthly driver health self-assessment and periodically issue random drug and alcohol tests. We will continue with our driver training programme, making use of what is available through FORS as well, as this will help our company to improve our performance data and reduce to risk to vulnerable road users.
Webster Miller actively promotes FORS membership to its Peers and customers via logos on our website and online stationary.
Continuing the good work into the future and maintaining our FORS Gold membership allows us to achieve our higher standards of working, better working conditions for our staff and a higher sense of achievement in always meeting best practice.
